An Enchanted Evening
Phil and Megan Singeris have a dream to make a difference in the lives of children affected with Myotonic Dystrophy, a disease that has directly touched their lives through their son William who is challenged daily with this debilitating disease.
In February 2005, that dream became a reality with the creation of the William Singeris National Centre for Myotonic Dystrophy located here in London, Ontario. Phil and Megan Singeris, their family and friends raised over $250,000 between 2004 - 2007 to fund this ground-breaking initiative – the first of its kind in Canada.
Muscular Dystrophy has over 40 different forms – one of the most devastating is Myotonic Dystrophy. Hundreds of babies have been born in Canada with this debilitating disease. At the William Singeris National Centre for Myotonic Dystrophy, these children are tracked and their development/treatments are followed. With this data scientists are able to form a foundation for development and testing for treatments that could eventually lead to a cure. With the help of the centre, families are able to understand, cope with and make informed decisions that comes with the difficult aspects of this disease.
