Andie's big day
Seven-year-old Andie Morrison’s smile lights up every room she walks into. Since she was 9-weeks-old, the staff at Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre have been trying to keep her happy and healthy, so she can continue to light up her loved ones’ lives.
Andie, who has a rare blood disorder called Diamond-Blackfan Anemia will be representing Children’s Hospital as our 2014-2015 Champion Child, presented by Walmart.
On Monday, October 27 a celebration was held at the Walmart store at Dundas and Clarke Road to introduce Andie and to premiere her Champion Child video. Andie was ecstatic about signing autographs and greeting friends, family and special guests including Eli Khan. After an amazing year as Champion Child Eli and his mom, Julie, shared words of encouragement and thanks before passing the torch to Andie with a superhero inspired gift of a magic wand and “Champion” cape. The event was capped off with a surprise shopping spree for Andie and her family.
The Champion Child program is made possible through the incredible support of Walmart. Each year the program brings children from across Canada and the US together to celebrate pediatric health and exceptional care. Andie will be one of 14 kids representing Canadian children’s hospitals at Children’s Miracle Network's Celebration this November at Disney World in Florida.
Andie’s mom and dad are so proud that she has been named this year’s Champion Child because she has been inspiringly strong her whole life. They hope her time as Champion Child will remind her that she is so much more than a patient who struggles with DBA – she is a champion!
