Westminster College Foundation Breaks Down Legal Barriers for Kids and Their Families
For families with a child in the hospital, the last thing they need to worry about is fighting a legal battle, and how they are going to pay for it. Whether it is the family of an asthmatic patient whose landlord refuses to address mould concerns or a parent who is missing work and being threatened with job loss, Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre has a program in place to help them - Pro Bono Law Ontario (PBLO), also known as Family Legal Services.
Family Legal Services at Children’s Hospital has the potential to help more than 120 patient families this year thanks to the generous support of Westminster College Foundation. With a $15,000 grant to the program, our Triage Lawyer can continue providing direct legal assistance to eligible patients and their families, as well as educating and training health care staff. This important service supports a health care system that addresses the social/legal barriers to health and aims to better connect care within and beyond our walls to help kids and families be their healthiest.
“We are so grateful for Westminster College Foundation’s dedication to helping families in need of legal assistance, recognizing the importance of the availability of legal services to all families, regardless of their financial or social circumstances,” says Susan Crowley, President and CEO, Children’s Health Foundation. “Without community support, services like these for our families would not be possible.”
Thank you Westminster College Foundation for your generous support. You are helping to bridge the justice gap so all kids have the best possible chance to move beyond illness and injury to pursue their full potential.
