Save & Improve Kids' Lives
Every day, throughout every corridor of our hospital and at the bedside of every sick and injured child, your support is helping Children’s Hospital provide the finest paediatric care available -- within a truly family-centred care environment that is saving and improving critically ill children’s lives.
Fund specialized equipment: From purchasing a radiant warmer to ensure the comfort and warmth of tiny infants in the Emergency Department to funding a new Electroencephalogram (EEG) monitor for neurology and slumber chairs so that parents can stay at their child’s bedside overnight in the Paediatric Critical Care Unit, your support is helping fund urgently needed value-added equipment throughout Children’s Hospital that enables staff and physicians to deliver exceptional care.
Comfort sick children: For a child, a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exam can be a frightening experience. The loud noise, enclosed space and the need to remain still for 40 to 90 minutes at a time can be challenging. But thanks to your support, children can now wear “CinemaVision” goggles and watch their favourite movie while undergoing scans, which greatly reduces their stress, minimizes the need for sedation and is resulting in clearer images for better diagnosis and treatment, as well as shorter wait times.
Establish a new simulation program: Using high fidelity simulators, medical teams throughout the hospital are now taking part in a very exciting, novel training program that simulates real life patient scenarios on four computerized infant and child sized mannequins. This program is changing the face of medicine from an education and patient safety standpoint, helping to enhance highly skilled training in emergency situations and patient care scenarios.
Support families in need: Through Children’s Family Assistance Program, you helped provide much-needed essentials like gas cards, meal cards, groceries, transportation, a laptop lending program, Wi-Fi access, and car seats for 696 families last year. By relieving some of their financial stress, you helped ease the burden that many families face, so they could remain at their children’s bedsides even when they were far from home.
Fund pro-bono legal services for patient families: Newly established in 2012, this program has already helped 60 families, providing much-needed on-site legal support, advice, information and guidance.
Support a patient and family-centred care philosophy: From funding parent-to-parent support groups to providing critical education and support, your generosity is helping us integrate the principles of patient and family-centred care into everything we do at Children’s Hospital.
