Dr. Craig Campbell MD, MSc, FRCPC
Chair of the Department of Paediatrics, Children's Hospital, LHSC

Dr. Craig Campbell is the Chair of Paediatrics, the Head of the Division of Paediatric Neurology and the medical director of the multidisciplinary neuromuscular clinic based at TVCC and the Paediatric Neurophysiology Laboratory at Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre.  He is a Professor in Paediatrics, Clinical Neurological Sciences and Epidemiology at Western University and a Scientist at the Children’s Health Research Institute. His training in Paediatrics, Neurology and Epidemiology was completed at the University of Ottawa. 

The paediatric neuromuscular service at Children’s Hospital LHSC/TVCC has evolved into an internationally recognized site for clinical care delivery, research and clinical outcomes evaluation. Clinical trial work in DMD patients has been an area of academic activity, and Dr. Campbell is collaboratively involved in many academic and industry initiated clinical trial activities in paediatric neuromuscular disease. He is a member of the Muscle Study Group, World Muscle Society, and co-chair of the TREAT-NMD Registry Oversight Committee and Task Force. Dr. Campbell has been awarded the George Karpati Award Researcher of the Year in 2011 and 2015, Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

Dr. Campbell has completed his Masters of Science in Community Medicine and Epidemiology is an Associate Scientist at the Child Health Research Institute and an Associate Professor at Western University. His research interests include neuromuscular disease in children and cerebral palsy. He is the Director of the William Singeris National Centre for Myotonic Dystrophy Research, which is conducting a Canadian study examining health outcomes in children with congenital myotonic dystrophy. Dr. Campbell is the Paediatric Lead of the Canadian Neuromuscular Disease Registry and a member of multiple international Neuromuscular Research Groups.

Shannon Maier
Vice President of Children’s Hospital and Women’s Program, LHSC

Shannon Maier is the Vice President of Children’s Hospital and Women’s Program at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), bringing 23 years of health care experience and leadership to her role.

Shannon’s career includes diverse clinical and leadership roles, including Clinical Educator in Maternal-Child Programs and Director of Maternal Newborn and Pediatric Services at Guelph General Hospital. She previously served as Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive at Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance, and most recently, Vice President of Quality and Practice at Trillium Health Partners, a hospital network in Mississauga and western Toronto.

Throughout her career, Shannon has demonstrated an exceptional ability to lead during times of change. She has driven innovative solutions to complex challenges, guided interprofessional teams, and played a critical role in pandemic response efforts, including the establishment of a dedicated pandemic response unit at Trillium Health Partners.

Shannon holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Toronto Metropolitan University, a Master of Science in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (MSc QIPS) from the University of Toronto, and has completed the Advanced Health Leadership Program at the Rotman School of Management. She is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Toronto, sharing her passion for patient safety and quality improvement with future health-care leaders.

Dr. Andreana Bütter MD, MSc, FACS, FRCSC
Paediatric Surgeon, Chair/Chief, Paediatric Surgery, Children’s Hospital, LHSC

Dr. Bütter completed medical school at the University of Ottawa and General Surgery residency at Western University.  During residency, she also pursued a year of research at the Montreal Children’s Hospital in fetal surgery and congenital diaphragmatic hernia, which culminated in a Master of Science degree from McGill University in 2001.  After residency, she returned to Montreal for a Pediatric Surgery fellowship at Sainte Justine Hospital (Université de Montréal). In 2005, she joined the Division of Pediatric Surgery and the Department of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital (LHSC) as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery.  In 2012, she was promoted to Associate Professor, and in 2020 to full Professor, becoming one of the first female Professors of Surgery at Western University.

In 2018, Dr. Bütter was elected Chair of the Canadian Undergraduate Surgical Education Committee (CUSEC) and became Chair and founding member of the Canadian Conference for the Advancement of Surgical Education (C-CASE). She has been the Vice-Chair of the Pediatric Surgery Board Examination Committee at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada since 2019 and was previously member of the Pediatric Surgery Specialty Committee. She is actively involved in undergraduate education and was the Associate Director of Surgical Education from 2014-2021.  She also serves as the faculty lead for numerous Schlulich Medicine & Dentistry groups.  Dr. Bütter has received funding from the AMOSO Innovation Fund, the Canadian Association of Pediatric Surgeons, and most recently received a Collaborative Research Seed Grant from Schulich Medicine & Dentistry.

Her clinical and research areas of interest include Pediatric Thoracic and General Surgery, such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia, bracing for pectus carinatum, nonoperative management of appendicitis and minimally invasive surgery.  Dr. Bütter helped to develop the first Canadian Robotic Pediatric Surgery Program. She is also a member of the Canadian Consortium for Research in Pediatric Surgery (CanCORPS) and the Pediatric Surgical Oncology Research Collaborative (PSORC).

Dr. Rod Lim
Medical Director, Paediatric Emergency Department, Children's Hospital, LHSC

Dr. Lim is a Professor and Medical Director / Section Head of the Paediatric Emergency Department at the Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre. He began his training at Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario where he completed his B.Sc in 1992 and M.D. in 1995 at Queen’s University. He then completed his Paediatric and Paediatric Emergency training at the University of Western Ontario.

Dr. Lim has enjoyed teaching all levels of learners and has been thankful to be awarded multiple teaching awards including Undergraduate Teacher of the Year, Postgraduate Teacher of the Year, Paediatric Emergency CANMEDS Teacher of the Year, the USC Teaching Honour Roll Award of Excellence and the supporting Scholarship Award.

Dr. Lim has been involved with the Royal College Specialty Committee in Pediatric Emergency Medicine serving as Vice Chair and regional representative. He was the past chairperson for the Pediatric section and Leadership section of the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) and the current Vice Chair of the Academic Section. He is also the founding member of the Wellness Committee and has a strong interest in Physician Wellness. He has been awarded the Marilyn Li Leadership Award for Paediatric Emergency Medicine and the Special Merit Award by CAEP.

Dr. Lim as well, is the current Standards Lead for the Paediatric Special Interest Group at the International Federation of Emergency Medicine and is helping develop international standards for Paediatric Emergency Medicine in developed and developing countries.

Dr. Lim is an Associate Scientist at the Child and Health Institute and has various research interests. He has been fortunate to have authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. His main areas of research interest include Paediatric Emergency clinical trials, Physician Wellness, and educational research.

Dr. Michelle Barton-Forbes, MD, MSc
Division Chief of Infectious Diseases, Children's Hospital, LHSC

Dr. Michelle Barton completed her postgraduate training in Paediatrics at University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica and taught for several years at the medical school where she earned a reputation for her teaching excellence. She then went on to complete a departmental fellowship in Paediatrics as well as a clinical and research Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at The Hospital for Sick Children.  She later completed training in Transplant-Infectious Diseases in 2009. She holds a MSc degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Toronto and boasts multiple first author publications with awards for studies including longitudinal studies on neonatal candidiasis and research in paediatric transplant recipients including vaccine studies and longitudinal studies on EBV.

As a member of multiple national research networks, she continues to be actively involved in multicentre clinical research. Some of her interests include:

-Infections in immunocompromised /vulnerable hosts such as neonates.
-Herpes group infections and other viral infections including neonatal HSV, Congenital CMV
-CNS Infections 
-Emerging Infections
-Antibiotic resistance and antibiotic stewardship

Dr. Eileen Crowley MD, MSc
Paediatric Gastroenterologist, Children's Hospital, LHSC

Dr. Eileen Crowley completed her honours medical degree at the National University of Ireland and subspecialty training with the Royal College of Physicians, Ireland. Moving to SickKids, Toronto for fellowship training in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and submitted her Master’s thesis entitled ‘Towards Personalized Care in Paediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease’. She completed postdoctoral training and subspecialty Paediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease training in the laboratory of Dr Aleixo Muise and received CIHR grant funding for supports. She was co-supervised by Dr Anne Griffiths working on the Canadian (CIDsCaNN) IBD network.

Dr Crowley works as a Paediatric Gastroenterologist at the Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences, Ontario, as an Assistant Professor with Western University and Clinician Investigator in Paediatric IBD. Dr Crowley intends to pursue further research in index development and clinical trials in Paediatric IBD.

Dr Crowley’s research interests include paediatric IBD, pediatric clinical trial endpoints, regulatory mechanisms for clinical trials in pediatric IBD, therapeutic drug monitoring and precision medicine. She is an active investigator in the CIDsCaNN network, which is a collaborative environment involving paediatric IBD specialists across Canada committed to the goal of understanding pathogenesis and optimizing treatment of IBD.  Dr Crowley is the co-medical lead of the Pediatric Centre for Clinical Research which supports investigator-initiated studies and clinical trials at CHWO.  She has presented at numerous national and international meetings.  Dr Crowley has also been successful as both primary or co-applicant on peer-reviewed grants from organizations that include AMOSO, CREW, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada and CIHR.

Dr. Douglas Fraser, MD, PhD, FRCPC
Critical Care Physician, Children's Hospital, LHSC

Dr. Fraser received his MD/PhD in Physiology and Biophysics (Neuroscience Research Group) at the University of Calgary. Pre-doctoral Studentships were awarded to Dr. Fraser from the MRC, the AHFMR and the Savoy Foundation. Post-doctoral Fellowship awards were then obtained from the MRC, AHFMR, NSERC and Epilepsy Canada. He subsequently trained in Paediatrics at Queen’s University, and then he received clinical fellowship training at the University of Ottawa in Critical Care Medicine. Prestigious training research awards were received by Dr. Fraser from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Pediatric Research. Dr. Fraser is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and was awarded a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Strategic Training Fellowship in the Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program. Dr. Fraser became an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Paediatrics, Physiology & Pharmacology and Clinical Neurological Sciences at Western University in 2003. He was promoted in 2008 to Associate Professor and in 2017 to Professor.

Dr. Fraser’s research includes epidemiological studies, identification of prognostic disease biomarkers and investigation of cellular mechanisms. Dr. Fraser’s research involves several mouse models of brain injury, collection of biological samples from children with acquired brain injury for laboratory analyses (blood and cerebrospinal fluid) and clinical studies on brain injury pathophysiology and epidemiology. More specifically, he is focused on determining the cellular mechanisms underlying acquired brain injury in trauma, diabetic ketoacidosis and severe sepsis. His current thrust is to determine if/how systemic inflammation causes breakdown of the blood-brain barrier and subsequent brain dysfunction. This work includes mouse disease models complemented with the use of human tissues for well-controlled in vitro laboratory studies. In parallel, clinical and biomarker experiments are determining the sensitivity and specificity for prognosticating severity of acquired brain injuries. Dr. Fraser is currently supported by grants from the CIHR, CIMVHR, HSFO, PSI Foundation, OBI, AMOSO Innovation Fund and Children’s Health Foundation.  He was awarded “Scientist of the Year” in 2017 by the Children’s Health Research Institute.

Dr. Marissa Lagman-Bartolome
Director, Education Program of Paediatric Neurology at Children’s Hospital, LHSC

Dr. Marissa Lagman is a Fellow of the American Headache Society and UCNS Diplomate in Headache Medicine. She is the Director of the Headache Program at the Hospital for Sick Children, an Associate Professor in Paediatrics (Neurology), the Director of the Comprehensive Pediatric Headache Center and Young Adult Headache Transition Clinic as well as the Director of the Education Program of Paediatric Neurology at the Children’s Hospital in London Health Sciences Center, Western University in London, Ontario. She continues to be an adjunct faculty staff at the University of Toronto doing research projects and continue her work as the co-chair of the Transition of Care Committee in the Department of Neurology at University of Toronto.

She serves on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Headache Society and as a co-leader of the Pediatric Canadian Headache Network (PeCaHN). She is also currently an active member and faculty staff of the American Headache Society including the Paediatric & Adolescent Headache Special Interest Group where she is leading the development of the AHS Consensus Statement on the Status Migrainosus Treatment Protocol in Paediatric ED and in-patient setting.

She is actively involved in research including the pediatric CGRP trials, migraine variants, peripheral nerve blocks and headache education as well as teaching endeavors at U of T, Western University and for the American Headache Society and Canadian Society.

Dr. Marta Wilejto
Physician, Paedatric Hemotology/Oncology, Children's Hospital, LHSC

Dr. Wilejto obtained her medical degree from the University of Toronto and went on to Paediatric residency training at the University of Calgary. She completed her Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children followed by a Master of Science in Community Health: Health Practitioner Teacher Education (HPTE) at the University of Toronto. She joined the faculty in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Children’s Hospital in London as an Assistant professor in 2018.

Dr. Wilejto’s clinical interests are in solid tumors, histiocytoses and cancer survivorship. Her scholarly work has focused primarily on post-graduate medical education, with a particular interest in curriculum planning and design and competency building.
