Kamlee’s life was turned upside down when she found out she had L Ports, a genetic kidney condition. She underwent a successful kidney transplant in January 2011, and was doing well until she and her husband decided to try for a baby. They knew the risks, but Kamlee was determined to become a mother despite the fact that her non-live donor kidney was nearing the end of its lifespan.
The pregnancy was going smoothly until Kamlee’s blood pressure started to rise at 24 weeks. She was admitted to the hospital, and despite her doctors’ best efforts, her kidney levels began to decline. Kamlee was scheduled to undergo dialysis when her baby decided it was time to be born. Zyon was born premature at just 27 weeks, and he had a rough start in life. He spent 101 days in the NICU, where he battled collapsed lungs, infections, and blood clots.
Despite the challenges, Zyon emerged as a charming and happy baby. He loves exploring, reading books, and watching Ms. Rachel on YouTube. He is starting swimming lessons in November and is obsessed with animals. He was the inspiration for London’s first NICU Walkathon, which raised money to support families with sick or premature babies.
Kamlee is grateful for the support she received from the hospital and the Foundation during her difficult journey. She knows firsthand how important it is for families to have access to resources and support during challenging times. Zyon’s arrival may not have been easy, but he has brought so much joy and love into their life, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
