Guiding Star Awards Celebrate Five Health Professionals

The inaugural Guiding Star Awards recognized excellence in Patient, Client and Family-Centred Care.

 

Children’s Health Foundation celebrated five health professionals last night, for going above and beyond in caring for patients, clients and their families.

The Foundation launched The Guiding Star Awards for the first time to celebrate individuals at Children’s Hospital, Thames Valley Children’s Centre and Children’s Health Research Institute for excellence in Patient, Client and Family-Centred Care.

“We received many nominations and are proud to recognize five outstanding individuals who truly exemplify Patient, Client and Family-Centred Care,” said Scott Fortnum, President and CEO, Children’s Health Foundation. “These health care providers put children and their families at the forefront of everything they do.”

The winners of the Guiding Star Awards are:

Children’s Hospital staff 
Lisa Pearlman, Nurse Practitioner, Palliative Care Program

Children’s Hospital physician
Dr. Roberta Berard, Paediatric Rheumatologist

Thames Valley Children’s Centre staff
Karla Krekewich-LaFayette, Psychometrist, Autism Services

Children’s Health Research Institute staff 
Dr. Kathy Speechley, Chair, Children’s Health and Therapeutics Division, and Scientist

Dr. Graham Chance Guiding Star
Dr. Leslie Scott, Chair/Chief, Division of Paediatric Surgery and Paediatric Surgeon

Each of the five winners received recognition and a monetary prize, donated by community members to honour these award recipients.
