Bob Carole Generous Gift for NICU

Celebrating Generosity: The Meyers Family’s Gift to the NICU

They hope their story will inspire others to contribute, no matter the size of the gift.

In a heartwarming testament to the power of generosity and community spirit, Carole and Robert (Bob) Meyers, a retired couple from London, Ontario, have made a transformative financial gift to Children’s Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Inspired by a newsletter like this one, which highlighted the NICU’s urgent need for specific equipment, Carole and Bob felt compelled to make a difference when the time was right. In 2023, they reached out to Children’s Health Foundation, turning their compassionate intention into impactful action.

This act of kindness and generosity comes from a profoundly personal place. Carole retired in 2011 after an extraordinary 40-year career as a nurse at London Health Sciences Centre. Her dedication to caring for patients in critical conditions has deeply shaped her understanding of the NICU’s needs and the importance of supporting this vital unit.

Bob, who spent over 50 years as a public accountant working with small and medium-sized businesses, views giving back as both a moral and practical choice. “It doesn’t matter how much you give — it’s the act of giving that counts,” he says, underscoring the significance of supporting the community that supported his career. Bob also appreciates the tax benefits of charitable giving and the satisfaction of seeing donations put to good use.

Initially, the Meyers’ preferred to keep their gift private. However, after learning about the positive ripple effect of sharing donation stories, they decided to go public with their generosity. They hope their story will inspire others to contribute, no matter the size of the gift. Sometimes, those who are humble need to share their stories to inspire others; hiding inspiration is lost inspiration.

Children’s Hospital is profoundly grateful for the Meyers’ generosity, which will immediately and profoundly impact the lives of many children in critical care. Their story serves as a beacon of hope and an invitation for others to join in the spirit of giving.
