In March 2020, just as the world pandemic began, Joey became seriously ill.
Surgeons discovered that he had a burst appendix a life threatening condition that required 41 days in hospital.
Even after Joey was discharged home to Mitchell, his life was not back to normal. Doctors prohibited him from exercising until he had an assessment on his heart. Thanks to the CP Healthy Hearts Lab, doctors were able perform stress tests to see if he had sustained any heart damage. Fortunately, he hadn’t!
Today, Joey is doing great! He is a funny and creative 12-year-old who loves his new puppy, Penny.
Kids like Joey continue to need our community to stand by them while they undergo life-saving care. Despite recent and on-going events, that has not changed.
