In December 2018, our community rallied together for twins Calvin and Katharina. The twins, born too soon, had spent the first months of their lives in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre. And while Katharina had gone home to West Lorne to live with her family, her twin Calvin struggled to survive. He was in critical care and doctors did not know if he would ever join his sister at home.
LCBO, its employees and customers heard their story and wanted to make a difference for other babies like Calvin and Katharina who had a difficult start to life. LCBO’s Joy of Giving Campaign raised funds to support essential equipment for the NICU, as well as the Regional Injury Prevention Program to help keep children and youth safe.
On May 22, Children’s Health Foundation had two things to celebrate. First, the campaign raised a record $742,669 to support six programs and nine pieces of equipment at Children’s Hospital. Second, Calvin and Katharina’s parents, Corey and Charlotte, shared with the LCBO staff in attendance that in March, baby Calvin was able to go home – something that they thought was not possible!
