Family company donates $50,000 to support simulation training

Family company, SC Johnson is donating $50,000 to train medical professionals to adapt to the constantly evolving protocols and rapidly changing care environment during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Children’s Hospital’s Michael Gunning Simulation Centre has been a critical resource for staff and physicians in the face of the ongoing health crisis.  It is a state-of-the-art facility that provides opportunities for realistic training in a controlled environment, building knowledge, teamwork skills and quality of care.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the simulation program has been integral to the development and testing of new protocols and procedures to address the unknown risk that faced our patients, families and staff,” says the Medical Director of Paediatric Simulation, Dr. Gurinder Sangha.

“The generous gift by SC Johnson will ensure that the Michael Gunning Simulation Centre can continue to be at the forefront of training and quality improvement initiatives to ensure the children of Southwestern Ontario receive the best care possible.”

The Michael Gunning Simulation Centre runs about 60 training sessions monthly at Children’s Hospital and in community hospitals throughout Western Ontario.

Children’s Health Foundation is sincerely grateful to SC Johnson for their investment in this important resource. The Michael Gunning Simulation Centre was built with the generous support of donors and continues to operate in part through community donations.

“The specialized training that caring donors, like SC Johnson, make possible provides significant opportunities for our health care professionals to develop new skills, improve their systems and practices and enhance their knowledge, saving countless children and youth,” says Scott Fortnum, President and CEO of Children’s Health Foundation.

“We are truly grateful to SC Johnson for recognizing the critical importance of simulation training as our health care heroes continue to face a challenging and changing environment. Their care for our staff and children is sincerely appreciated.”
