Supporting Our Kids When Emergency Strikes

Grateful DiCecco Family and St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus (Nobleton, ON)

Joseph DiCecco loved snowmobiling, hockey, boating and life at the cottage. From the time Joseph could walk, he enthusiastically worked right by his father’s side at the family business, Greenside, a very busy and well-known landscaping company. Joseph’s much-loved brother Christopher also continues to be an important part of their business.

At just 12-years-old, Joseph was already becoming an incredibly skilled heavy equipment operator and grew to become a talented mechanic - all while helping run the family business.

Suddenly, at 17-years-old, terror struck.

Joseph DiCecco needed urgent care at Children’s Hospital’s Paediatric Emergency Department.

With immense expertise and compassion, Children’s Hospital put all their efforts into trying to save Joseph’s life. Sadly, Joseph passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021.

Joseph’s father David DiCecco will be forever grateful for the care provided for his son, even writing letters to Children’s to thank all the staff that day for doing everything they could to try and save Joseph.

Though sent to Heaven much too early, Joseph is cherished dearly by his family and community and will live in their hearts forever.

In memory of their kind and dedicated son, the DiCecco Family and the Knights of Columbus in Nobleton, ON now hold an Annual Poker Tournament to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital, which are generously donated to help the Children’s dedicated Paediatric Emergency Department clinicians have the state-of-the-art equipment they need to provide every child, like Joseph, the best possible care in critical moments.

This year alone, the tournament raised $53,280. Our sincerest congratulations to all involved.

Children’s Health Foundation is honoured that the DiCecco Family and Knights of Columbus in Nobleton, entrust us to help carry on Joseph’s legacy. Together, we continue to inspire our community to help provide the best possible care for our kids at Children’s Hospital.
