I don’t save lives, you do

For Roger Haviland, everything changed in a single moment.

In 2011, Roger’s young son, Hunter, experienced a severe E. coli infection and was rushed to Children’s Hospital in London. What followed were two months no parent ever forgets. Roger slept beside his son’s hospital bed, witnessing the extraordinary skill, honesty, and compassion from the care team surrounding his child.

When Hunter was finally well enough to go home, Roger said something that still stays with the staff today:
“I own a company that helps protect homes. I don’t save lives. You do.”

That experience changed how Roger saw everything — family, leadership, and the responsibility businesses have to the communities they serve. For nearly 70 years, AM Group Exteriors has helped families across Southwestern Ontario protect what matters most — their homes and the people inside them. But those long nights in the hospital taught Roger something else: when a child is seriously ill, home becomes the place you hope to return to.

For more than 14 years, AM Group Exteriors has supported Children’s Health Foundation, donating over $200,000 to help children and families across the region receive the care they need — even through difficult business years. Roger’s perspective is simple:

When times are hard for a company, families whose children face serious illness are carrying something even harder.

That belief runs throughout the company. Business partner Andy Kamrath says supporting Children’s Hospital is simply part of their culture and how they live their values in the community.

Businesses help build strong communities and AM Group Exteriors is a reminder that generosity is not about perfect timing — it’s about perspective. And sometimes the most meaningful thing a company can do is stand beside the families who need it most.

Will you stand beside families who need it most? Your generosity is why Hope Lives here.
